A Fast Glimpse of Ballet Dancing

Classical Ballet is a unique dance form. It has features which are indigenous to the dance alone. Dancers of traditional ballet often start at a young age when their bodies are yet at its most flexible. This enables their bodies to adapt to the Classical Ballet’s high demand for athleticism. In possessing such high flexibility, the young dancer can perform the different dance routines.

History:

Ballet made its debut in the 18th century as a tool for assisting in plays. Ballet Dancers were a part of the cast who expressed character. It was also a time when ballet dancers wore hoops, high heel shoes, wigs, as well as corsets. Ballet was later utilized as interludes for operas.

It was not until the 19th century that ballet really experienced a great social change, as it was during this period that new techniques in ballet were introduced, such as the pointework, thereby propelling the ballet dancer into a symbol for a stage figure. It was also the time that ballet shoes or even slippers were invented. Later on, they developed this persona as being delicate unearthly creatures that had the ability to simply glide or float on stage.

Classical Ballet Style

The Classical Ballet emphasized on the movement of the dancers on stage. Those movements may create certain illusions such as gliding or floating.

Female Ballet Dancer Outfit

The clothing used by female dancer is distinct. As students, the ladies are to put on tights which might be flesh, pink or blue in color together with a leotard with any color. The wrap skirts are not a requirement but the student might wear one if she wishes to. For the feet, the students wear flats or in ballet jargon, are called soft technique shoes. As they progress in their training, they get the privilege of wearing pointed shoes.

Male Ballet Dancer Outfit

Men, however, basically wear the same thing in the sense that they wear tights and a leotard or a form-fitting shirt. They also wear flats, or soft technique shoes, that are black or white in color.

Ballet Training

For the training, students could go through many types of training. Some of them are Royal Ballet method, Vaganova method, Royal Academy of Dance method, Balanchine method, and Cecchetti method.

Just like athletes, ballet dancers have to earn a certain level of dancing skill and strength before moving on to the next level. A typical example is the pointed shoes. This is only worn by students who have earned a specific level of training.

If a student attempted to wear pointed shoes at the early stage of the training, it can cause accidents as the shoes requires a specific amount of dancing skill and strength for the dancer to be capable to control it. It’s like asking a sprinter to sprint 500 meters without training through smaller distances.
